LPN To RN Schools

LPN and RN careers are two different professions that share a good deal of foundational knowledge. While an LPN typically provides direct patient care, an RN has some of those same skills, but also takes on a supervisory role. In addition, the two careers have some similar educational requirements, but do focus on some different topics.

For example whether choosing to pursue an LPN or RN career, one will still go through a similar education and licensing process. Both career tracks require an individual to complete a course of study and then successfully pass a licensure exam. All nurses should also be observant of others and able to make split-second decisions while also demonstrating excellent communication skills.

However, while some of the personality traits are common to both careers, an RN will need to posses management and supervisory skills that may not be required of an LPN, as RN’s are often put in charge of several LPNs. In contrast, LPNs need to be able to follow directions and work under the close supervision of their RN or supervisor.

For both careers, trade schools, universities, and colleges offer the necessary courses and education to prepare students for licensing. Additionally, online schools offer the same preparation via internet courses. Choosing which type of school to attend will depend on the student and their preferences regarding issues such as location, cost, and timing of classes.

In addition, for LPNs who would like to continue their education, there are many options for them to complete LPN to RN online programs. These online schools provide the materials and education needed by LPNs who want to obtain their RN license. Moving from an LPN to RN role an open up a variety of job advancement opportunities as well as an increase in salary. For example, an LPN typically begins their career earning around $40,000/year, while an RN begins their career making $45,000/year.

While LPN to RN programs are also available at colleges, universities, and trade schools, online programs offer an added convenience to students, especially those who are currently working part- or full-time jobs. By working to go from an LPN to RN online, one can study at their own pace, in their spare time, or on their days off from work. This can be a great advantage to LPNs who need to continue to work while studying to further their career.
